Meet the Crew

Robyn
My family includes generations of ocean going people that include hard hat divers, merchant mariners, and fisherman. They says that we have saltwater running through our veins. Growing up in San Diego I gained a passion for the water from my mom, who is an amazing water woman. I was on the swim team at a young age and spent as much time as possible in the ocean. At the age of ten I experienced my first live-aboard sailing trip in the British Virgin Islands. At the age of twelve I accompanied my mom and brother (and the rest of the family) on a SCUBA diving trip to the Sea of Cortez. These formative experiences opened my eyes to life on the sea and traveling to distant shores. I spent the next two decades traveling through Central and South America, Africa, the South Pacific, the Carribean Islands, as well as exploring both the Atlantic and Pacific coasts of the USA.  I followed my passion for the water and love of the ocean into B.S. and M.S. degrees in Environmental and Water Resource Engineering, focusing on watershed health, water quality, and water sustainability. As a certified Dive Master and Engineer my first job our of college was as an underwater bridge inspector. I inspected the underwater portion of Bridges and loading Docks across Canada and the Northeastern USA. After seeing the poor environmental quality and observing the aquatic species in these industrial areas covered with growths I shifted the focus of my career to concentrate on water quality and ecosystem restoration. For the past 15 years I have lived and worked in Santa Cruz, California designing solutions to prevent polluted water from entering streams and the ocean, protecting and restoring ecosystems for endangered species, and designing system that reuse water to reduce our dependence on our natural resources and increase community resiliency. My other focus in life is to pass down my passion, respect, and appreciation for the ocean to my two daughters, as my mother did for me.

Brian
Brian is an avid fisherman, surfer, gardener, and forager. Brian spent his early years on a farm in Southern Humboldt and learned to swim in the pristine waters of the Mattole River. Brian's parents taught him how how to appreciate the beauty of nature, live off of the land, grow his own food, and forage for all things wild including from the land and sea. Brian's family left California for the North Shore of O'hau, where he leaned to surf in the warm waters and calm waves of Haliewa. While in Hawaii, Brian continued to hone his fishing skills. After a few years his family moved to the Puget Sound where he continued to fish and surf.  Brian has been a life long fisherman and enjoys catching all types of fresh and saltwater fish, catching crab, collecting clams, and picking mussels. Brian's love of fishing led him to a carer in Ecological and Water Resources Engineering. For the last 15 years Brian has lived and worked in Santa Cruz, California and his work has focused on habitat restoration and fish passage projects. Together we are raising two daughters who enjoy surfing, gardening, and foraging along the Central California Coast.
